On Thursday May 4th, voters across central Colchester re-elected Councillor Mark Goacher for a second term as Green Party Councillor in an emphatic victory over the Conservatives. Mark won with 1374 votes, giving the Greens a majority of 719 over the Conservatives who received 655 votes. Labour and the Liberal Democrats trailed in a poor third and fourth. Mark’s continued success has been attributed to year-round hard work and a positive and responsive approach to residents’ views. The Greens have won over 50% of the vote in the last two Castle Ward elections, with Councillor Richard Kirkby-Taylor winning another emphatic victory in 2022. Mark states:
“I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for me and put their faith in me to continue as your Councillor for another term. I firmly believe that the Green Party offers the most positive and progressive alternative to the Conservatives, who have let people down so badly.”
The full results in Castle Ward were:
Green Party – 1374 votes (50.4%)
Conservative Party – 655 votes (24%)
Labour Party – 492 votes (18%)
Liberal Democrat Party – 206 votes (7.6%)
