Green Party co-leader Adrian Ramsay visited Colchester recently and joined Cllr Richard Kirkby-Taylor and local members on the campaign trail. Adrian outlined his vision for a Greener Colchester by calling for:
- More to be done to co-ordinate bus services, a proper bus station in Colchester and improved routes
- Higher environmental standards for new build houses to reduce emissions and to keep bills down. Including renewable energy like heat pumps and solar panels
- A cleaner River Colne
Adrian states: “I’m delighted that the Green Party has broken through to Colchester Council in recent years as it puts a Green voice in the room to influence the discussions held. Whether it is how to improve public transport, protecting nature and Green spaces or how we ensure that developments are built to a high environmental standard. We want to see lots of policies put in place in Colchester, for instance, improving bus services will improve peoples’ everyday lives as well as the community. We would like to see far more done to co-ordinate bus services and a proper bus station in Colchester. As far as housing goes, if we build new housing to a higher standard we can keep bills low for people who are living there. Why would we not build new homes that are carbon neutral when all buildings need to be carbon neutral in the coming years”
Cllr Richard Kirkby-Taylor adds:
“As far as the river is concerned, I fear that water companies will continue to pollute waterways unless fines make it economically nonviable. It just goes to show the failures that trying to run public infrastructure for profit creates”.
