In July 2024 millions of people across the UK voted for progressive change and to get rid of the failed Tory government. Now people are increasingly telling us how disappointed they are at the direction of the new government. A direction which includes:
- Removal of the winter fuel payment for up to 10 million pensioners
- No halt to NHS privatisation with support staff at Colchester Hospital facing being privatised and Health Secretary Wes Streeting saying he is ‘entirely pragmatic’ about much more privatisation
- £5 billion of cuts to benefits relied on by the disabled such as reducing access to PIP. Up to 1.2 million less people could be eligible for PIP by 2029/30 as a result of the changes, threatening to drive up costs for local authority social care services.
- Plans to increase the state pension age even higher than the Tories did, with possible fast-tracking to 68.
- Massive cut to foreign aid, breaking a manifesto pledge to restore it to 0.7% of national income and prompting the former Shadow Chancellor Annelise Dodds to quit the government.
The Green Party is leading the fight against the new austerity and you could be a part of that campaigning.
